About Dan Lane

Landlord By Accident

I didn’t realize it at the time, but shortly after graduating from college, I was about to become a landlord by accident. A few years into my career, I purchased a townhouse, and before I even closed on the property, I started getting contacted by friends that wanted to rent out the extra bedrooms. Within a few weeks, I had two friends ready to move in, and the rent they were paying me was enough to cover my mortgage payment. It was perfect for everybody. My friends had a cheap place to live, and I was getting my mortgage paid by them. It was a real win-win.

Cashing Out

A few years later, I sold my property and made a cross-country move for a new job. I was fascinated by the selling process. I spent the next year researching how to get into Real Estate sales, and putting a plan together to leave my secure corporate job with good benefits and make the leap into a 100% commission sales job with no benefits.

Following The Dream

One day, I decided that I was ready to leave my corporate sales job and I was ready to make a change. I figured out that my passion was Real Estate, and it was time to follow my dream. I made a second cross-country move, got my real estate license, found some strong mentors, and got started selling residential real estate. I had a great start in the business. I was selling a lot of houses, and I was making a great income. From my first day in the business, I knew I was right where I was meant to be.

Recently, my wife and I decided that it was time to purchase a new home. I saw this as an opportunity to get involved with real estate as a landlord. We leased out our old home, and we are now generating rental income with that house.
